Oops, where did I go...?

Finally, since last time, I jumped back to the Java world. A little world called "Android" caught me, with the idea of developing this little UI widget I miss so much on my HTC Legend smartphone. Since at work I also have to switch projects and join a "fun/demo" project linked to the Android platform, I though this was a good idea to do the same in my home evening hours. So, no more C++ for the moment, but I am sure I will soon find a good reason to install and try out the native SDK; there are probably some stuff to be done there. In the meantime, let's try to get this widget out!

Old stuff, new stuff

Looking for a small HTTP library I can use for my experimentation project. Something simple, not too big, not too complex. Something I can use right away without spending hours to understand the APIs. And, something in C/C++. I think I found it, something old, but well, one include file, 10-15 lines of code and I have my HTTP GET request working, that's pretty cool. libghttp 1.0.9 . An "old" HTTP library from Gnome... It looks completely abandoned, but who cares, it compiles, links and works. C/C++, here I come, I know how I am going to jump back into this world. I will start writing a nice C++ wrapper class. New stuff? No, I am not talking about this little thing I want to do. For me the new stuff is to use Google Test and try to apply as much as possible the test driven development methodology. Try... yes, because from what I remember from the TDD training from last year, it is said that in C/C++ world it is not as easy to apply as in Java's world. I guess I will m

Back to the "roots"

Java is a nice language, but sometimes... Windows XP is, hum... not that much of a good OS for development... Therefore I though it would be a good idea for me to go back to the "roots", and return to another world where I used to live in the past. It started one week ago, when I finally re-installed the latest Ubuntu . Wow, what a change! Using Wubi I got it to work in minutes, without going via the painful disk partitioning. Super! It is kind of fast, even it is using a NTFS file as virtual disk. My PC starts to be a bit old, but still, nice to see everything works without having to spend hours goggling and vi'ing! Having the OS for my experiments, I now had to find out what I would use for development. My first reflex was to get back this fantastic IDE that is IntelliJ IDEA . Bad idea, I am already wondering why I did not throw away my work laptop PC - a much more recent PC, faster... There is no comparison: Windows XP + Anti-virus + all the nice IT managed software a
